Is 1.5 dCi based on Delphi servo-solenoid balanced valve?

.
.
Copy and paste the following from :

Delphi Enters High Volume Production With the World's First Diesel Fuel Injection System to Use Revolutionary Direct Acting Piezo Injectors

*********************************************************************************
Therefore, the different types of injectors existing so far were:
-- servo-solenoid unbalanced valve (first Common Rail type introduced in
the market);
-- servo-solenoid balanced valve (Delphi's concept in production)
-- servo-piezo unbalanced valve (only type of piezo injector in
production to date);
-- (There is no servo piezo balanced valve design currently in
production).

***********************************************************************************

Does this mean that Renault 1.5dCi diesel engine is based on "servo-solenoid
balanced valve"?

Have yet to find out any info on this "balanced valve" and "unbalanced valve".
What does it mean by balanced and unbalanced?

Renault 1.5dCi March 06 News

Stumbled upon this URL http://www.worldcarfans.com/2060307.005/page1/ news dated March 06 regarding Renault 1.5dCi (Turbo) Diesel Engine.

I was trying out the new search engine www.cuil.com, developed by ex-Google staff with the search text "K9K engine".

Press Release

Economical to buy and run

Logan is now available with a state-of-the-art 1.5 dCi second-generation diesel engine with direct common-rail fuel injection – a unit delivering high performance combined with high fuel efficiency. With a combined-cycle fuel consumption of only 4.7 litres per 100km, the Logan 1.5 dCi is one of the most economical cars on the market and also comes with power steering as standard.

Starting at €9,840 (including taxes) in the Ambiance version, the Logan 1.5 dCi offers the best value for money in the market, backed by a three-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty.

With the 1.5 dCi engine – a product of the Renault group’s powertrain range – Logan offers driving pleasure combined with fuel consumption (4.7l per 100km) and emission levels (125g/km of CO2) that make it highly competitive among diesel cars currently on the market. The second-generation common rail injection system developed for the 1.5 dCi is characterized by the supply of precisely the required quantity of pressurized fuel in a series of injections, improving the efficiency of combustion and saving fuel. The system also features dedicated

injector calibration, enabling the injection timing and flow to be controlled for each injector individually.

This injection system permits better control of the quality of combustion and, in particular, of pre-injection. Thanks to the Accelerometer Pilot Control (APC) function, the pre-injection flow is controlled over the entire life of the engine, improving its performance and sound level, and helping directly to reduce pollutant emissions. The 70hp (50kW) version is also equipped with an air-to-air intercooler and a new engine management system, affording very high efficiency while complying with the new Euro 4 standard.

A compact unit, the K9K engine is also characterized by its modest weight (127kg in service-ready condition). Supercharged by a low-inertia turbocharger to reduce the response time, it combines comfort and driving flexibility.

Developing a maximum torque of 160Nm from 1,700rpm, with 85% of peak torque available between 1,500 and 3,500rpm, the 70hp 1.5 dCi engine delivers lively acceleration that adds to driving pleasure, aided by power steering as standard equipment.

Derived from the petrol-engine versions, the JH3 five-speed manual gearbox is permanently lubricated. The unit has been modified by extending the gear ratios to exploit the torque of the K9K engine. Fuel economy and sound comfort have been prioritized while maintaining the car’s dynamic performance. Acceleration from rest and low speeds is lively, even when the car is loaded; the Logan 1.5 dCi accelerates from 0 to 100kph in just 15 seconds.

Combined with its 50-litre tank, the model’s low fuel consumption gives it a basic range of over 1,000 kilometers. Economical to run, the Logan 1.5 dCi makes life easier for its owner. The running costs have been reduced, while the specified service interval is every 20,000 kilometers.

The Logan programme to date The Logan programme has already been largely deployed worldwide. Following start of production in 2004 at the Dacia plant in Pitesti, Romania, 2005 was a successful year for Logan, with

production under way at new assembly plants in Russia (April), Morocco (July) and Colombia (September).

Logan was launched concurrently in markets in a number of highly diverse geographic areas (Western, Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America), confirming its role as a car designed to conquer new international markets.

The next stage in the Logan programme will commence with production in Iran in late 2006, followed by India and Brazil in 2007.

The Logan 1.5 dCi is available in Ambiance and Laureate versions at prices of €9,840 and €10,440 respectively (taxes included). Both versions are equipped with power steering as standard, numerous safety features, including ABS, twin airbags, three-point seat belts in the rear and adjustable rear head restraints, as well as comfort features such as central locking.

And, of course, the Logan 1.5 dCi also comes with a three-year or 100,000-kilometre warranty.

So all I need now is to decide if I want to continue with my Automatic transmission 1.4 8V Petrol engine or swap in the 1.5dCi, but with a Manual transmission............... since I am driving a Kangoo now.....

Fitting Nissan MR16DE into Renault Kangoo

Form Factor.

One can buy a Nissan Tiida/Latio/Versa with the following engine options:
  • 1.5-litre straight-4 HR15DE gasoline engine
  • 1.6-litre straight-4 HR16DE gasoline engine
  • 1.8-litre straight-4 MR18DE gasoline engine
  • 1.5-litre straight-4 K9K-1.5 diesel engine
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Tiida)

And you can buy Renault Kangoo with the following engine options:

  • 1.0 litre D-series petrol, 59 bhp (8v) / 68 bhp (16v)
  • 1.2 litre D-series petrol, 60 bhp (8v) / 75 bhp (16v)
  • 1.4 litre 8v Energy petrol, 75 bhp
  • 1.6 litre 16v K-series petrol, 95 bhp
  • 1.5 litre dCi turbodiesel, 57/65/68/82/88 bhp
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Kangoo)

The common engine between the two is the 1.5 litre dCi turbodiesel engine (K9K engine).

So is it thus very obvious that one can fit the Nissan MR/HR1xDE engine (together with the gear box) into the Renault Kangoo without much hassle? I mean the form factor is the same for easy fitting ?? If yes, I can then replace my current 1.4 litre 8v Energy petrol engine with the HR16DE engine.

Anyone ?

Automobile Diesel - Renault 's dCi

Diesel powered vehicle - more of my favourite.

And why Renault diesel only? Because there is one model of Renault vehicle currently being offered here in Malaysia - the Renault Kangoo 1.5 dCi 68 7-seater and commercial version.

Any other diesel passenger cars being offered here currently (2008) ? Yes, the Merc and the BMW which are sort of high end luxury cars.

Any other diesel powered non-commercial vehicles? Yes, the 4x4 or 4x4 pick-up trucks are diesel powered, and some SUV from the Koreans are diesel powered, and an American SUV - the Chevrolet Captiva 2.0L diesel. But when it comes to fuel consumption, they are not as good as this 1.5dCi (the smaller c.c. vehicle), are they?

My Kangoo is as per the slides... :D But the heart (engine) is a 1.4L 8-valve Automatic Transmission Kangoo. Not the diesel version. :(

One question I do have is why most (if not all) European diesel cars are manul transmission ? Especially the big three in France - Renault, Citroen and Peugeot. The Germans' are automatic transmission.

I wonder if it has got to do with the engine capacity? The smaller the engine, automatic is a no no ?????
